This follow up single from JAYS leans towards their more soulful influences. Although the bottom end has a focus on their more groove based alter ego, you’ll find familiarity in the playful counterpoint between vocals, violins and guitars all driven by a dynamically diverse and evolving arrangement. Lyrically, the song is driven by one important word, hence the title. ‘Run’ is a powerful word that can mean many things to many people, and this release from JAYS takes that concept on a journey. What can seem like a break up song to some, explores the different angles of the complications of a relationship; when you feel like you need to run away, maybe the best option is to run toward each other, or just to run together.

Amy recalls the moments that influenced these lyrics well, she said “I remember sitting in the corner of shower wondering ‘How will I be the same without them? Why did they want to hurt me?’. When someone cheats, it feels so deliberate and it’s something that can hold the feeling over you that you’re not good enough. The chorus and title were inspired by the moment that sorrow and anger becomes empowering. The realisation ‘hell no I don’t want this person in my life. If they can’t face up to what they did then be my guest, run away!’. Now that my life and relationships have long moved on, this song reminds me to know my worth and to remember that avoiding my problems is the same as running away from them”.

The release of JAYS’ debut single Mind Architects was an amazing moment for Danny & Amy. “Taking that step to share difficult stories and have listeners tell you the music speaks to them and they’ve felt the same way too, is just incredible. ‘Run’ is special to us because we’ve been able to have more of the band involved in the recording, which in a pandemic has its challenges but we can’t wait to see the response”.
